International Women's Day: Resiliency

With today being International Women's Day, I've taken some extra time to reflect on the women that I've been brought up by, walk beside, and look up to. I was especially moved by Rupi Kaur's words and the meaning that they hold. I sat with the word 'resilient' for a while, thinking about how true of a description it is for the women around us. Resilient is defined by Merriam-Webster Dictionary as:

a) being capable of withstanding shock without permanent deformation or rupture

b) tending to recover from or adjust easily to misfortune or change

What has struck me about resiliency is the essential quality of flexibility. Resiliency is more than strength. More than having the capability to resist. To be resilient is to have the capability to bend and to recover or adjust. There's also a dynamic quality to resiliency. To be resilient is to undergo change.

Take time to hold all those resilient, striking, dynamic women around you a little tighter today.
